What is an FMS screen?

A Functional Movement Screen takes an individual through seven different patterns and four clearing tests. An FMS screen is performed during an initial assessment to create a baseline measurement of an individual’s fundamental movement skills. Each pattern is rated and ranked, and results guide the trainer into safe, effective exercise selection for the individual’s program.

At CompPT, we believe that the best path to performance is through proper assessment. We do not give cookie cutter exercise programs, as each individual is unique in their development, training history and current capability. The FMS screen has been shown to identify painful patterns to be avoided in exercise, as well as highlight functional limitations or asymmetries in movement.

FMS screens have been shown to have validity in combination with other testing protocols in injury reduction for multiple sports and populations.
